CROCHET

CROCHET  DOLLY

Crochet is a process of creating textiles by using a crochet hook to interlock loops of yarn, thread or strands of other materials as per craftsofamrita.

The name is derived from the French term crochet, meaning small hook. Hooks can be made from a variety of materials, such as yarn fibre, wire, metal, wood, or other innovative materials - bamboo, plastic. The key difference between crochet and knitting, beyond the implements used for their production, is that each stitch in crochet is completed before the next one is begun while knitting keeps many stitches open at a time. Some variant forms of Crochet, such as Tunisian Crochet and Broomstick lace do keep multiple stitches open at a time.

craftsofamrita gives the following types of crochet -

1. Chain Stitch

2. Slip Stitch

3. Single Crochet Stitch

4. Half Double Crochet Stitch

5. Double Crochet Stitch

6. Treble ( Triple ) Crochet Stitch

While the horizontal distance covered by these basic stitches is the same , they differ in height and thickness as per craftsofamrita

The more advanced stitches are after combination of these basic stitches, or are made by inserting the hook into the work in unusual locations. More advanced stitches as per craftsofamrita include the shell stitch, V stitch, Spike stitch, Afgan stitch, butterfly stitch, Popcorn stitch and Crocodile stitch.
